Bandai Toy Product Search

Bandai America and Edison Nation are looking for innovative kids' toys. But it is not one ordinary contest. You have to have a prototype of the product and have to give $25 dollars to enter the contest. They are looking for innovative products and can use any of the Bandai labels like Power Rangers, Ben 10, etc. Don't take my word for it, click on the link and check it out. I know there is fans out there that make custom toys, so I wanted to put this out there for them to check out.

Beetleborgs Third Season... Or Third Toy Line??

I can't believe I didn't do a post on this or even noticed. I think I saw the pictures once but didn't pay it mind because it looked the same as before. I'm talking about the toy line that came after Beetleborgs Metallix (the second season) which was called Beetleborgs Force. The reason there was no third season despite its popularity was because there was no third series for B-Fighters, they stopped making the series in Toei. Well, there was a sequel of sorts (B-Robo Kabutack) but it was more for smaller kids and wasn't the same so Saban opted not to use it. The two teams did appear in a Christmas special for B-Robo Kabutack but it might had been hard to explain the appearance of Kabutack and the existence of two teams. It is rumored that there was a third season planned without footage but instead Mystic Knights was created (which also was rumored to have a second season called Battle Thunder but the budget was opted to be used for Lost Galaxy).

Some of these pics are from Ranger Central Unlimited, I didn't know these pics existed because my site partner Mike put them up and didn't, I didn't realize the different logo. This toy line came out in the fall of 1998 even though the series stopped new episodes in the Spring of 1998. Reruns did air on UPN from Fall of 1998 to Spring of 1999.

This 'Force' line had both teams, here is just three pictures. So I think the third season wouldn't had been called 'Force.'

These two deluxe figures were based on Jansperson, a Metal Hero from 1993. He was just one hero, and not a team.

Bandai and Plex could had easily designed new suits but I guess Saban didn't think it was worth his trouble and money. The series itself was jam-packed with so much stuff like the Hillhurst monsters and the comic book store and the kids special powers, that they didn't have to do a lot of battle footage. And since they used a lot of Beetleborg monsters for Power Rangers and Mystic Knights, I'm sure they could had reused them again. They could had easily done episodes without battle scenes and concentrated more on the monsters. The road that lead to the Beetlborgs becoming Metallix took five episodes! Plus, the Mega Spectra Sector Cycles and Mega Spectra Armor were American, so they could had kept using those suits and could had brought back the White Blaster Beetleborg. Oh well, I should stop dwelling in the past.

Bandai America correspondence "Back in the Day"

I was doing some summer cleaning and found this old letter. I used to send a lot of letters to Bandai America and recieve many back. I thought they were all gone. I remember one where I asked about who was the White Ranger (this was before "White Light" aired but the toys were already out in June) and they told me that was up to the show and not them. I don't remember what I wrote to them to get the letter below but I thought you guys would enjoy what they had to say. I hope I find more.

Bandai America Event for Japanese Relief Efforts

UPDATED 3/27/11 11 PM EST
Bandai America has now joined donors to relief efforts for those effected in Japan by the tragedy. I've been in California and did want to visit BOA in Cypress but it was too far and I heard they had no tour, but now I wish I was there for this. Above is a picture from Bandai America's Twitter.

"Donors who stop by Bandai America’s headquarters in Cypress between noon and 7 p.m. today for a drive-through fundraiser will get to meet characters from the Samurai Power Rangers, Ben 10 and Swampfire, Lassie the dog and Tamagotchi. Goodie bags are promised, too.

The Bandai drive takes place at 5551 Katella Avenue in Cypress and will benefit American Red Cross relief efforts. Cash and check donations (not food or clothes) are being accepted. Bandai and several related businesses, among them the entertainment company Saban, are part of the effort. Bandai America plans to make a matching contribution for personal donations."

They joined the hundreds of people that turned out for his Youth Run 4 Japan to raise money for the Red Cross.

Power Rangers Samurai Toy Fair New Toys

UPDATED 2/20/11 4:10 PM EST
Looks like we are getting the regular form Samurai (except the girls), Retrofire Megazords are back, Rita Replusa (probably left over from MMPR 2010 but will be under the Samurai label or possibly Super Legends), a new villain (based on Juzo of Shinkenger), Green and Gold cycles and Gold's Zords.

It looks like we are getting one repackaged vehicle, the one to the right was first used in the Operation Overdrive toy line.

She might be skinny but at least we got her. Probably because we asked for her for the MMPR Line 2010. She could be under the Super Legends line for all we know.

And it looks like we are getting a Battlized Red Ranger after all, this is how I pictured him.
The kanji on the chest is part of the kanji used for "armor" (甲), brought to my attention by a commenter who has remained anonymous. 甲冑 is "armor" and 甲 can be used for shell. There is a new video on YouTube with an interview that says it will be called Shogun mode.

It looks like that inside the box they have cardboard pictures of the actual toy, but the actual box will come with the action figures. I think they will sell the actual figure and with the armor. I wish they will sell the armor by itself if you already bought the figure.

Called Juzo in Shinkenger, he is called Deker according to Carol of Bandai at CollectionDX:

Power Rangers Samurai Toy Site shows the toys have the MMPR Actor FACES!

The Bandai America site has the Power Rangers Samurai section up now. The Switch Morphin toys (so far only Red and Blue have been seen) have the mega helmet and then the Ranger with the black face mask and you can see their eyes. The Blue Ranger has dark skin just like the actor. But the site has pictures of their heads in civilian mode and it is JASON, BILLY, and TOMMY! I am sure it is Tommy, because it looks like he has a ponytail in the back. The toys that are out, don't have these faces, maybe this was just a prototype. But I wonder what David Yost thinks about this, or the other actors, that their likenesses are being used after so many years. Maybe they made the mold of the heads for some MMPR 2010 project but when Saban spearheaded Samurai, they used the heads as a prototype. This is just a guess.

Toy Week: Lavender Ranger Rant: Why do Fans want figures to be show accurate

People have asked me this week and many times before, why fans like figures to look exactly like they are in the show, or have toys of stuff that actually appear on the show. I must admit that this is a personal obsession of mine.

When the Power Rangers Samurai toys came out, I was upset that they were not 'show-accurate' because I thought they were not going to be on the show. But now I know they will appear on the show, so they are quote, end quote "Show-Accurate." Now I have no problem with them. I do wish they had kept this for later and released the normal suit figures first. I feel like Bandai and PR producers leave us in the dark and then we are to assume things and from digging, we find info out.

Above is a 2010 figure with the original Auto-Morphin Tommy head attached by a fan. Maybe I was spoiled by toys in the 80's like Thundercats, Transformers and Ninja Turtles, where they made toys of stuff that was actually on the show. Sure, some of them didn't have all the paint, but dang it, the Ninja Turtles were 'show-accurate.' The reason kids have toys, for the most part, is to play with---but also they feel like they have EXACTLY what they see on the screen (big or small). For example in Toy Story, John Lasseter (creator) spoke that he had Thinkway toy company make toys that were exactly that size. Thinkway had planned to be small, but they took the risk, made a lot of money. Go to 1:45 mark:

He uses the word "Authentic." Good point. It doesn't have to be 'Exactly' like the ones on the show, I know I used caplocks on it before, but just to make a point. I believe that if the figure looks off, not at all like what you see in a film or show, it doesn't feel like it is what it suppose to be, like it is a rip-off. So if you don't care about how it looks, then just buy a rip-off. There is a thing to be said about quality. Look at those toy companies that are still on top like Mattel, Hasbro, Fisherprice, and Playskool, there is a reason why and it is quality. They deliver quality products. Above is a picture of a fan adding more paint to an existing Camile figure to match her look on the show [Rather, Mele in Gekiranger because of her chest (it was censored in Jungle Fury)].
