Christmas, Halloween and RPM Teamup announced!

Marvista Entertainment and Saban Brands will debut three new Power Rangers Samurai TV specials (2x30, 1x60), based on the new TV series of the same name. Featuring the Samurai Rangers, the new specials include:

Christmas Together, Friends Forever - the Rangers reflect on their first year together as a team and learn about the spirit of the season.

Party Monsters - a scare-fest when the creepiest monsters from beyond get together for party and trade stories about their battles with the Rangers.

The Clash of the Red Rangers - a crossover special where the Samurai Rangers team with the mysterious RPM Rangers Red fend off the dual threat from Master Xandred's Mooger army and robotic super-villain from the RPM Ranger's dimension. When something goes awry, the two Red Rangers turn on one another and the fate of the world hangs in the balance.

“The new Power Rangers Samurai specials are a perfect fit for the international markets ongoing demand for event-driven programming which offers broadcasters additional opportunities to cross promote,” said Fernando Szew, the CEO of MarVista Entertainment. “The new season of Power Rangers continues to generate stellar ratings as it launches around the world, and we are pleased to be in a position to continue to build upon the brand by offering dynamic and fresh new content to our partners.”

The date to air these are not announced yet, most likely we will be seeing these Halloween and Christmas specials this year. It is great news that the RPM Rangers are from another dimension, explaining the whole post-apocalyptic thing. So this explains suspensions that they were filming a RPM teamup, and why Mike's actor Hector was communicating via Twitter to the actress who played Tenaya.

And as some may also know, he recently acquired Ninja Turtles: The Next Mutation, the only live-action the Ninja Turtles had and they guest starred in two episodes of Power Rangers in Space.

Kamen Rider Fourze: News Bulletin

Hey guys, as you might know (or didn't but now will), Kamen Rider OOO is only a few episodes away from a conclusion, and as early as a few weeks ago, the next season of Kamen Rider has been revealed in the form of Kamen Rider Fourze. Some pictures have already seen of the rider, actor, cast, rocket switch, and two villains. Now, about over a week ago, there was a news report on tv about the series. UK martial arts ace as Red Ranger for London 2012 Olympics

The 20-year-old British Taekwondo champion Aaron Cook from Dorset was rated as one of Team GBs strongest gold medal hopefuls for next year at the ExCel Centre, is keen to emulate his European Championship success in front of his home fans in 2012. And in a bid to raise his profile ahead of the Games. Cook has become the first ever honourary member of the popular kids TV show.

Cook will be exhibited in front of hundreds of Olympics fans at London's Westfield Shopping Centre on Friday - as a real-life action figure to mark the launch of the new Power Rangers Samurai. 'I’m hoping that by joining the Power Rangers I’ll help to inspire British children to follow in my footsteps, which will hopefully include a medal at the London 2012 Olympics,' said Cook. I personally think this is the best idea ever. The box was a 9 to 10 feet tall replica toy box.

South Korea has Goseiger as 'Power Rangers Miracle Force'

As I've mentioned on this blog before, in South Korea they show the actual Japanese Super Sentai dubbed in Korean and rename it 'Power Rangers.' South Korea will air Tensou Sentai Goseiger as Power Rangers Miracle Force, replacing Power Rangers Jungle Force (Hyakujuu Sentai Gaoranger) this July. South Korea started dubbing Super Sentai as 'Power Rangers' with Bakuryuu Sentai Abaranger in 2005 and aired it as Power Rangers Dino Thunder which continued till Engine Sentai Go-Onger dubbed as Power Rangers Engine Force. Samurai Sentai Shinkenger was skipped due to possible cultural issues and in some extent, South Korea's grudge towards Japan and instead aired Hyakujuu Sentai Gaoranger as Power Rangers Jungle Force. Power Rangers Miracle Force premieres this July 2011.

Yes, the Red Mystic Ranger is using the Pink helmet repainted. Since there is only one RPM Ranger, I am led to believe that most of the Ranger suits are from Disney World (RPM Green, Pink Mystic, Blue Jungle, Red SPD, Yellow Overdrive, White Dino, Lunar Wolf, etc.). The only of Disney World that doesn't seem included seems to be Pink Time Force Ranger. The Blue Ninja Storm, Yellow Jungle, Blue Mystic, Red Dino, Yellow Dino, Red Mystic and other related suits are probably around because Disney had them for promotional stuff. I can't explain the repainted Pink Mystic helmet and even Zeo. The ones they have of all are MMPR, Wild Force and Samurai.

Saban Brands, Power Rangers and Paul Frank at Licensing International Expo 2011

Last year at the Licensing Europe Expo in September. In October at Cannes they had the MMPR Rangers at an event. But they weren't there last June. Some fans that went are surprised Saban Brands have a big booth. The Expo is from 14 to 16. Sorry, no new info.

They had a 'Power Ranger flash mob' with adults in real suits and children in Samurai Halloween costumes of Samurai (blue and red) and Pink MMPR costumes. I don't think the Pink Samurai Halloween costume has been made yet as it is not here and there is no picture on the websites. Present up in this picture are MMPR Blue, MMPR Yellow, Lunar Wolf Ranger, SPD Red, Yellow Mystic Ranger, Red Galaxy Ranger, MMPR Red, Red Dino Ranger, Green, Yellow, Red, Pink, Blue and Gold Samurai Ranger. Also an unidentified Red Ranger behind Green Samurai Ranger.

Along with a 2012 cartoon Christmas TV special being officially announced today, Saban plans to have 1990s fashion icon character Julius the Monkey power a cross-country Winnebago tour and a balloon in this fall’s Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade. They are planning the Christmas TV special of Paul Frank to be like Charlie Brown Christmas specials playing yearly on one of the big networks but are trying out Nick as well.

Steven Skyler at New Zealand Event

In an article from Waikato Times in New Zealand reports of a 17-year-old "Glee" fan scoring Steven Skyler at an event since he was in an episode of Glee and is in the area because of Power Rangers Samurai. The Revue 2011 and Emerging Talent Showcase, starring Steven Skyler, Amy Finnigan, Max Hay and an array of other Waikato performing artists will be held next Saturday in the St Peter's Auditorium. "He will do a solo and a short speech about what it takes to make it in the entertainment industry."

Saban Brands makes deal with Mega Bloks

"Mega Brands has signed a multi-year global licensing deal with Saban Brands, which excludes Asia. The Mega Bloks Power Rangers Samurai construction toy sets will launch in spring 2012, and will include vehicles and play-sets. "...we are delighted to add Mega Bloks to our stable of license offerings," added Elie Dekel, president of Saban Brands."

I wonder why Mr. Dekel said that Mega Bloks is being added since Mega Bloks already produced Power Rangers products in the past under the reign of Disney. But to be fair, they stopped doing it around SPD. And why so late to be in 2012???!

“Power Rangers Samurai” Hits Series High Ratings, “Supah Ninjas” Hits Series Low

"On Saturday, April 30, the move of Power Rangers Samurai to a new day for new episodes caused the series to hit a record high in total viewers: 3.184 million viewers (you can see more ratings from the show here). In fact, Power Rangers Samurai’s noon airing on Saturday was watched by more people than each show airing in primetime that night on Nickelodeon and Disney Channel!

However, on the same day (and in primetime none-the-less), Supah Ninjas hit a series low, after only three weeks, in total viewers: 2.106 million viewers. The show premiered on April 16 to 3.1 million and dropped on April 23 to 2.872 million."

Another Earthquake in Japan

So our Eastern time 10:30 am Thursday morning, the Earthquake occurred for Japan's Thursday night. The Tsunami Watch lasted a couple of hours and it was lifted, no Tsunami happened. But lots of cities lost power.

A 7.1-magnitude earthquake hit Japan at 11:32 p.m. local time on Thursday in the same area as the initial March 11 9.0-magnitude earthquake. It was the largest aftershock to date. Some injuries were reported, but no death so far, according to Japan’s government broadcaster. The earthquake also knocked off power in parts of the region.

Bandai America Event for Japanese Relief Efforts

Bandai America has now joined donors to relief efforts for those effected in Japan by the tragedy. I've been in California and did want to visit BOA in Cypress but it was too far and I heard they had no tour, but now I wish I was there for this. Above is a picture from Bandai America's Twitter.

"Donors who stop by Bandai America’s headquarters in Cypress between noon and 7 p.m. today for a drive-through fundraiser will get to meet characters from the Samurai Power Rangers, Ben 10 and Swampfire, Lassie the dog and Tamagotchi. Goodie bags are promised, too.

The Bandai drive takes place at 5551 Katella Avenue in Cypress and will benefit American Red Cross relief efforts. Cash and check donations (not food or clothes) are being accepted. Bandai and several related businesses, among them the entertainment company Saban, are part of the effort. Bandai America plans to make a matching contribution for personal donations."

Thoughts on Japanese Tragedy and Cast and Crew's Well-Being

I was planning to do Ultraman Week and Girl Power Week 2. In respect to the natural disaster and tragedies in Japan, I have decided to not post anything else this week, unless important and or pressing. My heart goes out to those who lost their homes, or love ones. I personally know three people in Japan that are dear friends, I hope the best for my friends David Shaw, Danny Torres and Jill Sylvan. Jill Sylvan, a fellow website webmaster I've known since 1999 -- Sentai Spoilers, which is now on hiatus, is all right. Danny Torres is a pal I chatted with online and he moved from the United States to Japan and has met a lot of former Sentai cast. David Shaw, is my friend from college who is now teaching children English and has no Sentai relations (nor a big fan). So my prayers are there for them, the Japanese citizens and the whole world, in fact.

Hallwings says: This has got to be the first major pre-emption of Super Sentai (and tokusatsu in general, since other series were affected by this) since the death of Emperor Hirohito (Showa) all the way back in 1989. [But they didn't delay airings in 1995 for the 6.8 earthquake that hit the Hanshin region.] This was a 9-er, along with major tsunami.
I don't have much to back up the information or any other info on any other delays. On January 7, 1989, Emperor Hirohito Shōwa died. Choujuu Sentai Liveman aired in 1989.

Tsunami in Japan

Even in Japan's turbulent seismic history, the 8.9-magnitude earthquake that struck Friday was one for the record books. The quake—the fifth-largest recorded since 1900 and the biggest to hit Japan in three centuries—released almost 1,000 times the energy released in the Haiti quake a year ago. The resulting 30-foot-tall tsunami slammed into Japan's northern coast and swept away people cars, boats and buildings.

Auto plants, electronics factories and refineries shut, roads buckled and power to millions of homes and businesses was knocked out. Several airports, including Tokyo's Narita, were closed and rail services halted. All ports were shut.

Super Sentai Songs on iTunes! And Samurai Ratings

Nippon Columbia Co., Ltd. has announced the release of the “Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger” theme song, set for March 2, 2011, in addition to the start of overseas distribution of the “Super Sentai Theme Song Series,” which comprises six of current total of 35 “Super Sentai Series” theme songs, available exclusively on iTunes beginning March 9th, 2011.

Ratings were up with boys, compared to Disney (Cars Movie) by seven per cent with boys aged two to 11 and by 34 per cent with the boys aged six to 11 category. Perhaps due to its heritage appeal, the launch brought in solid adult audiences too, earning a 0.57 adults 18 to 49 rating and a 0.61 male 18 to 49 rating, which is an increase of eight per cent and 61 per cent year-on-year, respectively.
