What year really counts as the anniversary year? What year could it be considered?
Super Sentai 25th Anniversary
With Goranger, Super Sentai started in 1975. Technically Battle Fever J (1979) was the first to be called Super Sentai. Goranger and JAKQ were not included as Super Sentai until 1994 when Toei decided to include them with the series that followed. The 25th anniversary for Super Sentai was celebrated in 2001 with Gaoranger (2001). 1975 + 25 years would be the year 2000. But technically speaking there was no Super Sentai series for 1978, so 25 years would end at 2001. But it can be said that the series was one year after 25 years.
Power Rangers 10th Anniversary
"Mighty Morphin Power Rangers" was first premiered in 1993. "Power Rangers Wild Force" celebrated the 10th anniversary in 2002 with the "Forever Red" episode having 10 Red Rangers together. Ten years would had been in 2003. So this was celebrated a year before it was suppose to be. But I suppose it could be argued that it was the 10th season, but for me it is the same thing, potato, patato; to-mah-toe, toe-may-doe; res-sume, rey-zoo-may.
Super Sentai 30th Anniversary
With Goranger, Super Sentai started in 1975. The 30th anniversary for Super Sentai was celebrated in 2006 with Boukenger (2006). 1975 + 30 years would be the year 2005. It can be said that the series was one year after 25 years.
Power Rangers 15th Anniversary
"Mighty Morphin Power Rangers" was first premiered in 1993. "Power Rangers Operation Overdrive" celebrated the 15th anniversary in 2007. 15 years plus 1993 would be 2008. So this was celebrated a year before it was suppose to be.
Super Sentai 35th Anniversary
With Goranger, Super Sentai started in 1975. The 35th anniversary for Super Sentai was celebrated in 2011 with Gokaiger. 1975 + 35 years would be the year 2010. It can be said that the series was one year after 35 years. But it can also be said they are celebrating the actual 35 years Super Sentai has been on the air, as there was no series for 1978.
My personal theory is that Power Rangers has just followed suit with the Super Sentai they adapted from, maybe because of Bandai. For example, Gaoranger was an anniversary year so Bandai or whomever decided to make Wild Force an anniversary year. Saban Brands has mentioned the 20th anniversary for Power Rangers. 20 years after 1993 would be 2013, but following suit of Wild Force and PROO, it could be done in 2012. Some sources say Saban is counting the MMPR reversion as Season 18 and that PRS is season 19. But Paul S. (Bulk) says it is the 18th season and that PRS will run for 2 years, meaning we won't have a new theme until 2013, most likely based on Goseiger. If Gokaiger was adapted in 2014, and the 20th anniversary is already celebrated, it would look strange. They could have just let PRS for 1 season, Goseiger for 2012 and Gokaiger for 2013, making the 20th anniversary work. Oh well, we will know soon.
"Video games for Nintendo Co.’s Wii and DS will be released this year, and a movie may follow in time for the live-action series’ 20th anniversary in 2013, Dekel said."
